Goal: He'll be around as another pro-freedom mage, a mage with a useful background in healing, and for being Commander Coupe's fit ginger kept man.

About: Gervais Vauquelin is the younger son of the late Comte and Comtesse Edmé and Allegra Vauquelin, brother of current Comte Vauquelin, Emeric, and holds the courtesy title of 'Lord', though he's long preferred 'Enchanter'. He was sent to the White Spire as a child, where he spent the majority of his life, studying healing magic with an eye to understanding how it could be that elves and humans only have human children. His interest in this anatomical reality led him to become an expert in reproductive health, albeit a limited healer in other respects, and is not unrelated to the way that he's consciously cultivated an image of placid harmlessness to off-set the potential suspicion of blood magic in a mage who does, through his work, encounter a great deal of blood. He's suffered from a stutter since childhood that likely could have been lessened if he'd worked on it; he chose not to, correctly understanding how it helped mold Templar perception of him. An imposingly tall man, broadly built, he's worked so diligently and so long to downplay himself as a threat and conceal his opinions and emotions that he now finds it difficult to express them.

At the time of the annulment of the Spire, Gervais was on a research mission under Templar guard (not uncommon, and he often traveled this way when called on to attend difficult births); he overheard Averie, the older and less sympathetic (a right prick, in other words), talking Werner around to following the orders they had received to put him down before returning to the Spire to participate in the annulment. He took the pair by surprise and killed them quickly, abandoning the bodies at the bottom of a nearby crevasse and fleeing, distressed about baby's first murders. He has been in hiding and largely isolated since, occasionally making brief contact with isolated settlements—sometimes exchanging magical assistance for shelter or resources, more often getting news of the world and then moving on quickly. Recently, he was discovered by Aura Hardie, who notified his niece and reached out to him; through her he has slowly readjusted to people, and has made his mind up to be more proactive.
